Derek has worked in the field of counseling in various forms including working with the military, working as a correctional officer, doing foster parenting and even working as a group home director. At the Gratitude House, Derek helps men to face their struggles with addictions. He also helps these men to face the daily difficulties that transpire on the road towards recovery. Our property features several luxurious homes which can comfortably accommodate up to 4 residents each. We are centrally located for convenient access to several different employment opportunities.

It will be a requirement of the women to secure employment, attend school to further their education, or volunteer while living at Gratitude House. Independent Living Skills – Budgeting, money management, time management, daily chores, cooking, and personal hygiene, are just a few of the many independent living skills residents at the Gratitude House will learn. Our desire is that each resident has all the tools necessary upon graduation to live in the world as productive members of society. After working in the field of recovery for quite a few years we decided that it was time to do it for ourselves. We wanted the freedom to get out of the cookie cutter recovery model and provide more individual care. After all, everyone is unique and and recovery treatment should not be any different.

It is a helpful method for addicts in helping to adjust to sober living. It encourages patients to get to the root of their addiction and learn how to better handle the issues that led to using. In Gratitude House Sober Living Residence‘s individual therapy, the patient meets with the therapist in a one on one setting. This allows them to focus on the underlying issues of addiction and come up with solutions to prevent future abuse. So we get the ‘things’ and we de-prioritize our sobriety, but our heads are still spinning.

Program Details

Securing Employment – Residents at the Gratitude House must have a job and work at least 40 hours per week. Dallas has a healthy economy, and residents generally have no problem recovery residence finding a job within the first few weeks. As part of our program, each resident must pay at least 30% of his earned wages toward the cost of his stay at Gratitude House.
